Stumbled Upon.... Stumbleupon

As I’ve been addicted to it this week I will be blogging about the amazing invention that is... Stumbleupon. With this handy little toolbar you will never be bored on the internet again, this handy little doodad allows you to enter subjects and topics you like and then at a click of a button will take you to random website throughout the internet that people with similar interests enjoy.

Now thanks to Stumbleupon I know such useless information as the imperial timeline of the middle east, CQB hand signals and not to mention all the youtube videos which I have spent literal hours watching. Who needs website like bored.com, just get stumbleupon and start stumbling around the internet for your own enjoyment!

I highly suggest that anyone with time on their hands at least tries Stumbleupon out because it is truly genius and hey it educates you at the same time so it’s fun and educational! Never thought i’d say that did ya?!

Exploring Middle Earth

Lord of the Rings Online, a.k.a. the reason I’ll probably get a 2.2 in my degree. With hundreds on MMO’s out there now days what makes this game stand out? If you know me then you’ll know my intense love for J. R. R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings Lore so how I managed not to notice this game or play it before seems entirely odd, but alas this isn’t the only reason why I am blogging about the greatness of this game. Also one of the major selling points to this game is that roughly 50% is free to play and the other half being purchased using in game turbine (the game makers) points, which through some genius of the makers of the game you can earn small amounts of these turbine points without ever paying any money.

The game itself is like most other MMO’s large open landscapes designed for questing and dungeoneering to your heart’s desire mixed with some crafting and selling items. But one of the great part of the game is the ability to buy and play instruments..... yes I said play and by play I literally mean any song, too many times have I annoyed people prancing around playing “Barbie girl” only to spent the time later minutes rocking out some “Through the fire and the flames” in a dungeon. With huge online databases of song there literally nothing you can’t find, yes even GlaDOS’s portal epic “Still Alive”.

Whether you’re a fan of the Lord of the Rings, MMO’s or just poor and want to waste a bit of time, then I can highly suggest coming to join me in the lands of middle earth online, who knows we could end up rocking some “Don’t Stop Believing” off the top of Weathertop.

Between a Rock and A Hard Place

A Film about a guy severing his arm on screen ... no this is not a saw sequel this is actually decent. 127 hours is the latest work of Danny Boyle, possibly the best British director of all time. I wanted to see this film because the original reports had fascinated me at the time, that fact that a man can have the shear capacity to cut his own arm off perplexed me, but that is the true awesomeness of Aron Ralston. Hats off to him as I would have probably resigned myself to dying 48 hours in to the ordeal. As it is based on a well known story I will not be Spoiler Alerting as If you wanted to go see this film, it will because you already know the story so on the film....

I thought the film would consist of hours watching one guy stand at a rock face pondering his own existence, which in my mind sounds mightily boring, but during the film I never felt it drag out longer than it should have been, the surreal scenes as he distended into insanity, added much needed comedy and depth to the story and helped to break up the large sections of him at the rock face.

The arm severing scenes were tastefully done, none of this overtly graphic scenes that have characterised modern horror/gore movies. The Breaking of his Ulna & Radius bones are a particular highlight. Upon leaving the cinema i experienced a tingling sensation in my right arm, it very rare that a film can have such an effect upon me but 127 Hours managed this, which just shows how good a film it is and I highly suggest that you go and watch it..... before a rock falls on your arm!

Bringing it Back Old Skool Styleee!!!

Back on the Old Blog Train. It’s been a long time since I last blogged can’t believe it’s been almost two years. A lot has happened over the last two years that I wish I’d of blogged about but never mind, on with the future. The Final Year of University is upon me, and far from the work, work, work I’ve expected it has been made up of moments of intense work spread out between periods of great boredom. This is why I’m starting up the old opinion/review engine. And will be back shortly with a new, but exciting (highly doubtful!) blog post.
