Lord of the Rings Online, a.k.a. the reason I’ll probably get a 2.2 in my degree. With hundreds on MMO’s out there now days what makes this game stand out? If you know me then you’ll know my intense love for J. R. R. Tolkien and the Lord of the Rings Lore so how I managed not to notice this game or play it before seems entirely odd, but alas this isn’t the only reason why I am blogging about the greatness of this game. Also one of the major selling points to this game is that roughly 50% is free to play and the other half being purchased using in game turbine (the game makers) points, which through some genius of the makers of the game you can earn small amounts of these turbine points without ever paying any money.
The game itself is like most other MMO’s large open landscapes designed for questing and dungeoneering to your heart’s desire mixed with some crafting and selling items. But one of the great part of the game is the ability to buy and play instruments..... yes I said play and by play I literally mean any song, too many times have I annoyed people prancing around playing “Barbie girl” only to spent the time later minutes rocking out some “Through the fire and the flames” in a dungeon. With huge online databases of song there literally nothing you can’t find, yes even GlaDOS’s portal epic “Still Alive”.
Whether you’re a fan of the Lord of the Rings, MMO’s or just poor and want to waste a bit of time, then I can highly suggest coming to join me in the lands of middle earth online, who knows we could end up rocking some “Don’t Stop Believing” off the top of Weathertop.
